Course Summary
Nobody Taught You How to Listen is a practical course for driving instructors, PDIs and trainers who want to improve one of the most important—and often overlooked—skills in driver training: active listening.
Good listening goes far beyond hearing the words a pupil says. This course explores how to recognise what a learner really means by paying attention to their words, tone, body language, behaviour and the things they sometimes leave unsaid. You’ll discover the three levels of listening, how our own thoughts and assumptions can get in the way, and how simple techniques such as silence, paraphrasing and better questioning can uncover what a pupil genuinely needs.
Using realistic driving-lesson scenarios, you’ll see how the same situation can lead to completely different learning depending on how well the instructor listens. You’ll also explore common challenges including quiet pupils, pupils who talk too much, nervous learners and parents sitting in on lessons.
The course finishes with a simple 7-day listening challenge, helping you turn the ideas into practical habits you can use immediately.
The aim isn’t to make you talk more. It’s to help you hear more—and use what you hear to deliver better, more client-centred lessons.
